Monday 30 September 2024, 6pm for 6.30pm to 7.30pm, followed by networking reception, London

Resilience First is delighted to invite our members to a fireside chat with Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of the City of London, on building a resilient global city. During the evening, our members will discover the Lord Mayor’s priorities for resilience and sustainability in the City of London, as well as his new initiative ‘Connect to Prosper’, which aims to leverage the City’s private sector strength to address global challenges.

Attendees can hear from the Lord Mayor on how we can build the resilience of communities and systems in London, whilst also building the resilience of the global systems we all rely on.

Resilience First members and representatives from GHD will also share their insights and experience from projects and initiatives they are working on that are building societal and systemic resilience.

London: A Resilient Global City

In today’s interconnected world, no city exists in isolation. Three years after the Covid-19 pandemic permacrises continue to pose significant challenges for cities worldwide, encompassing climate change, social inequity, geopolitics, cost of living, and energy transitions. These challenges are further exacerbated by increasing urbanisation and mass migration. The United Nations predicts that by 2030, 60% of the global population will be living in urban areas.

The City of London has faced and overcome numerous disruptions throughout its history – from the Great Fire in 1666 to the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis. However, its infrastructure will be particularly more exposed to the current threats of climate change, as we begin to see the effects of rising water-levels, drought, heat stress as well as Vector-Borne diseases.

This event, kindly hosted by GHD with the Lord Mayor of the City of London, presents an exceptional opportunity to gain insights into addressing these challenges and spearheading the growth of a future-ready global city, as well as networking with industry peers.
