A major milestone has been achieved with the publication of the draft ISO/DIS 22316 – Guidelines, for public consultation. This is a significant revision to the original version, and is due for publication as a full Standard by November this year.

Key changes include:

  • Introduction of a measurement-based framework for organizational resilience
  • A new focus on resilience by design, embedded into strategy and business models
  • Definition of essential outcomes, supported by indicators, targets, and thresholds
  • Explicit use of stress testing to validate resilience under severe conditions
  • Clearer board and top management governance responsibilities
  • Expansion of resilience across defined dimensions, including finance, operations, workforce, environment, and social.

This approach is adopted from the Resilience First and Cranfield University Model for Organisational Resilience, which many of you will already be familiar with. If you’d like to read, or even provide comments on the draft Standard, you can do so through this link: British Standards Institution – Project

As the Standard progresses through its public consultation phase, we will continue advancing the Model’s practical application when we hold the next session of our Working Group later this month.

The session will provide an overview of the draft standard, consider complementary measurement approaches, and explore how the Model can be brought to life, including the role of the Strategic Resilience Officer for the future.

If you would like to be involved in the Working Group, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
