This event takes place Monday 16th September
Resilience First, in collaboration with the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) London Resilience Unit, is set to build on the insights from Exercise Helios with an upcoming tabletop exercise for businesses.
Scheduled for Monday, 16th September, from 09:30 to 16:00 at Mott MacDonald, 10 Fleet Pl, London EC4M 7RB, this event aims to address the widespread effects of extreme heat on businesses and explore potential solutions.
Exercise Helios was a day-long exercise conducted by the GLA’s London Resilience Unit, which simulated a multi-day extreme heat event to test the city-wide response. Its aims were underpinned by the National Security Strategy and Recommendation 6 of the London Climate Resilience Review’s suggestions for regional exercises to test preparedness for extreme weather events with cascading effects. Essential service providers, including the National Grid, UK Power Networks, London Fire Brigade, NHS, and Met Office, participated alongside borough councils and representatives from London’s cultural and business sectors. This collaboration aimed to evaluate and enhance the city’s preparedness for extreme heat scenarios likely to occur in the coming years.
Building on the key takeaways from Exercise Helios, and equipped with the exercise materials made available by GLA, Resilience First’s event for its members will feature a multi-stage exercise focusing on extreme heat scenarios.
The session will begin with a review of the lessons from the first Exercise Helios and presentations from climate resilience and meteorological experts. Participants will then engage in evolving scenarios informed by scientific projections, and answer questions about their organisations’ responses. Facilitators will guide discussions on mitigation and response strategies already in use, exploring assumptions and dependencies, and promoting knowledge-sharing for a community-centred approach to climate resilience.
Key benefits for participants include risk mitigation strategies, workforce safety practices, enhanced business continuity planning, and valuable networking opportunities with other businesses, government officials, and experts. These interactions will foster the exchange of insights, resources, and strategies essential for climate resilience.
Through this exchange of ideas, Exercise Helios and Resilience First hope to encourage innovation and adaptation, enabling companies to discover new technologies and approaches to further develop their business model’s resilience.
This event is invite-only for Resilience First members. If you are interested in becoming a member of Resilience First and taking part in future tabletop exercises, please reach out to us for a discussion on the benefits of membership.
